This piece celebrates the energy, tradition, and spirit of this iconic event—bringing together equestrian excellence, Southern heritage, and a vibrant community. At the forefront, I painted a stylish spectator in a bold red hat, a nod to the Red Hat Society, representing sisterhood, female camaraderie, and friendship. It’s a tribute to the women of this community. We gather for this event to share in the day's joy and tradition. Her hat is adorned with yellow jessamine flowers, South Carolina’s state flower, a symbol of resilience, warmth, and the rich cultural roots of this region. Beyond her, the thoroughbreds and their jockeys surge forward, capturing the thrill of the race in bold strokes and dynamic movement. Above them, the American and South Carolina flags wave proudly, reminding us of the deep traditions that make this event unique. With this painting, I wanted to convey the excitement, tradition, and unique atmosphere of the Aiken Spring Steeplechase. It’s more than just a race—it’s an experience, a moment shared among friends, families, and horse lovers alike.
